The event was held on Sunday and Vargas finished with a time of 2:06:48, breaking his own previous record of 2:07:09 that he set last year.

"This is a great achievement for me," said Vargas after the race. "I am very happy to have broken my own record and I hope to continue improving my performance."

"I'm grateful for this opportunity to represent my country and to be able to compete at such a high level," Vargas said. "I will continue to work hard and strive to achieve even greater things in the future."
