The Italian football club Inter Milan has announced the signing of Denny Dumfries from Scottish side St Johnstone on a season-long loan deal.
Dumfries, who is known for his defensive skills and experience in the Scottish Premier League, joins the Serie A outfit on a permanent basis after impressing with his performances during pre-season training.
Inter's sporting director Carlo Ancelotti praised the midfielder's qualities: "We are very happy to have Denny back on our squad. He has shown great promise and we look forward to working with him as he develops."
Dumfries had previously played for St Johnstone, where he scored seven goals in 29 appearances across all competitions this season.
His impressive performance for the club earned him a call-up to Scotland's Under-21 team ahead of the World Cup qualifier against France in August.
"Being part of such a strong squad and getting a chance to play for my country will be an amazing experience," said Dumfries.
Inter's new signing is likely to provide much-needed depth and stability at centre-back, especially given their current lack of quality up front. The club also aims to strengthen its defensive line by bringing in experienced players like Jannik Vestergaard and Alex Nesta.
The move comes just months after Dumfries left Celtic in January, having joined St Johnstone on loan from Rangers. His departure was due to the ongoing financial difficulties faced by the club, which led to the firing of manager Gordon Strachan last summer.
Dumfries himself was not involved in the decision-making process regarding his transfer, but he expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to join Inter and the club's supporters.
"I'm excited to be joining Inter and I can't wait to get started here," said Dumfries. "I hope to make a positive impact on the team and help them achieve success on the pitch."
